The Little Girl
Ok, so the story goes a little something like this….it starts out with a girl 17 years old that grew up in a small city and a crazy family. God saw a precious, innocent, vibrant little girl who has a passion for life. He had the perfect plans for her life, and decided He would reveal them to her slowly so that she could mature with a flow. So far her life was on track. She had gone through a few rough patches but they were mostly growing pains.
God loved her so much. He watched her “coo” as an infant, take her first step as a toddler, watched her as she got on the bus to her first day of school, walked with her as she barely squeezed through middle school, he watched her cheer for the basketball team, and He collected her tears as she cried praying privatly in her bedroom that High School would just be over. He saw her stretch into a beautiful young teenager. He was so excited to show her what was going to be next, until one day, His heart was broken. The little girl decided to take matters into her own hands she was sick of waiting for the path God had for her to take its course. She felt hurt and betrayed by her family, unwanted and unloved by her peers, and ready to give it up. She took for granted what she had and what God wanted for her. She began to drink alcohol, sleep around, and smoke cigarettes just to take the pain away. She tried to escape but everytime that the buzz would kill she felt that pain even harder than before she took the first sip, drag, or kiss.
She left God but he didn’t leave her. He wanted her to willingly stand next to Him and fight these battles. He called out her name several times but she ignored it. She had found “happiness.” Except, the drinking got worse, the smoking got to more than a pack a day, and she was now living with her boyfriend of 3 whole months. God called her once more through the concern of her brother. He wanted her back so desperately! This time she considered what He was saying to her heart “come back, come back! I miss you.” but by a few hours later she had forgotten everything because the drinking drowned the voice out to only a faint whisper.
Then one day this little girl looked down at the test and yes… it was positive. In shock the girl told her boyfriend, called her brother and made plans to tell the rest of the family that she was pregnant. It was more like motions, she realized at this point that nothing was in her control, NOTHING! She decided that it was time to make things right. She moved out from her boyfriends apartment, and quit smoking and drinking immediately. She moved in with her brother and started going to church with him and his family. The little girl knew that just because she had quit drinking, smoking and sleeping around, it wouldn’t truly change her life. She began to slowly pray, read her bible, and ask questions about God. Soon she was living a life seeking God’s face. One day she asked God, “why? why did I have to get pregnant?” he answered, “because I love you and I wanted to prove it!”
That little girl was… ME. Ever since then I have seen God’s proof that He loves me through my son Ethan everyday. I do this, not on my own but with Jesus walking right beside me. He gives me strength to get through each tough day, he provides for my needs and even some wants that aren’t deserved. I am going to college to become a nurse and am now ministering to single moms like myself encouraging them to keep looking and moving forward. God has so much more for me than what I have going on right now. I am now ok with letting him reveal things slowly to me… I am maturing with a flow!
